ME...i'm small.. but i look at the world and realize that there's a lot to notice.. lot to take in.... which we seldom do.... here's my attempt...
(any resemblance of characters to real life people is purely coincidental. no animals were harmed. veracity of the things read in here are guaranteed. you might have come across some of the situations yourself)
Its that time of the year.. well, for me the festive season started in late October with Diwali and the lights are on till the start of the year... like every year.
this year has been different...lots of changes in life have happened over a period of few months... change is difficult to adapt to.. but change is good...even though it feels like life has been caught in a quagmire..
last year i remember there was a huge party at my house with all of my pseudo-friends.
alcohol was flowing, music was playing, dances were being danced by dancing folks.. everything looked very merry... felt merry too.. but i guess everything just looked merry.... when it came time to show their faces these folks had completely different faces... faces expressing the expressions of things brought on to them by virtual reality...well such time is the time when u know who's real and who's fake... and believe you me, there's more fake than real...
it's all about take... not much about give... but this is the season of giving.. and I was, am and always will be a giver... so I'm glad I'm in the company of givers this year.
This year the party was a quiet one... with a decorated Christmas tree, two dogs, five people and the usual flowing of alcohol.. and the happiness was felt all around. Sometimes you have to give up a lot to receive a little... and that little feels a lot.. because when you have a lot around you, you don't know if it really is yours...
I'm getting too philosophical here.. but such is the time....
This year there is peace and calm.... and there is a hollow in life.. there sure is, but that hollow will be filled... by someone who gives a lot to receive a lot..
I hope Santa fills the hollow in everyone's lives.. oh yeah we all have some kind of hollow... with some goodness.. some warmth, some wishes and a lot of love..
Merry Christmas!
Food. Such an important activity of day to day life. But do we pay any attention to what we eat?... I don’t think so. Yeah we do know what we want to eat today. And some people even think of being health conscious and so eat veggies and stuff..low fat stuff etc.
But we don’t know where the food comes from do we?... in America today when we go to the supermarket to buy our groceries we have a ton of choices.. really if you look into a Wal-mart or Kroger, you see 50 different varieties of bread alone. Why is that?.. have we really wondered ever??
I saw a movie today.. an eye opener really!! Wow !! that was something..
Do we know that corn is like the backbone of what we eat today?. Corn farmers get such subsidies from the government that it is actually cheaper to buy corn than to produce it. And there are some multinational giants that produce genetically altered food products, be it bigger tomatoes or pesticide resistant soybean or chicken with bigger breast portions, and get patents for such items and then the farmer who grows these items doesn’t have any control over how he goes about his business.. it is essentially like being an agent of the multinationals. There are actually 4 or 5 big companies that run the show. High-fructose corn syrup, the ingredient in almost 90% of food items we eat, is derived from corn… it is so good for the industry that it can be used as a sugar substitute and a preservative combined! It is great for the coke that we drink or the Aunt Jemima’s pancake syrup that we eat in the morning but it is not very healthy for us. It can also be processed to many other ingredients that are used as emulsifiers etc. The presence of this ingredient in our food has caused the young of America and all over the world to become obese rather soon…. The incidence of type II diabetes is on the rise among young people whereas a few decades ago diabetes was a condition known to happen only to people who were older.
Meat that we eat be it chicken or pork or beef is “processed” nowadays in huge factories. Where carcasses are hung on a hook conveyor belt and cut into pieces by men and machine both. But do we know what the animals are fed??... in evolution cows and buffalo have been considered herbivores.. animals that eat grass and other vegetation. But nowadays corn plays a role even in that area. The animals are fed corn-meal rather than grass cause it is cheaper to feed them corn than let them graze on pastures which have already been cleared for land development. So what happens now is that because the animals have not been naturally known to eat JUST corn their digestive tracts are infected with bacteria that grow due to the fermentation that happens when corn is mixed with digestive juices in the animal’s body. Such infected meat and milk-products come into the market and then there are outbreaks of E. Coli and the like… people have died from these causes and will in the future…
How can all this change?.. it is only up to US, WE.. we are the consumer and if we don’t buy such products they will soon go out of demand and we will start eating healthy again. It is much cheaper to buy the burger at McDonalds or BK or anywhere else than to buy fruit and vegetables in the supermarket. And it is even more expensive to buy “Organic”… why??.. because we let these giants take advantage of us. We see a bargain and we buy the shit that will actually cause us more harm in the long run. According to research and statistics, there are more people who fall sick today than there were 50 years back. Because food is a major reason. Going “ORGANIC” is the “rich” way or the “gay” way they say but everything in the past was organic, wasn’t it? Organic being no additional ingredients added like growth hormones or antibiotics or genetic alterations.. just plain simple naturally grown stuff like it used to be. Only now it is more expensive. We should all think about it.
I have decided from today onwards that I will buy organic, animal products at least. I will buy organic milk (cows fed on grass rather than dry corn) organic yogurt (because that comes from organic milk) eggs, meat etc. I will also actually try to buy from a farmer’s market if I can find one close by. I don’t want to pay Wal-mart or Kroger $5 for my chicken so that in the long run it will cost me more to get the problems out of my body.
Think about it… change is necessary.
Here is a movie that I think everybody should watch. Its called Food Inc.
And here’s a website that we can all go to and choose to change OUR lives.
yeah.. i met this woman... old woman in her late 80's at CVS once... asked me about her medicine... and i suggested some generic....
old woman was all shriveled and wrinkly... and was cute too.... just like one's grandmother is.....
she was standing at my consultation window... and i came forward and asked her if she needed any help or had a question...and she said she wanted to see what medicine her doctor had called in and what it was for...
and i explained. then she asked me what that medicine was and if it was a generic.. and i explained that it was and she gave me a look of bewilderment and scorn both combined.... and her head started to bob and shake from side to side..... and she frowned and those eyebrows arched heavily on her wrinkled face and her lips started to quiver and her wrinkles started to get more pronounced.... and her already hanging skin on her face started to move up and down with her face.. .like a bulldogs... and she said to me in her country voice with a distinct 'hood' accent "junuhrix???...junuhrix will kill ya!..i dont want no junuhrix...i want the braynd"... and i laughed in her face... not because of what she said to me.. lotsa people say that .. especially older people... and people with money to spend on drugs, both illegal and legal... but the way she said it.... it had her signature on it.... she believed firmly in it....
here's this old woman.... has lived so long.... and she still wants to live longer... so doesnt want generics... doesnt want to compromise on anything....in her mind.....maybe that's why she lived that long....
and this world has become a world of compromises.... maybe we should learn from her....
then she said to me when i laughed out loud (lol) in her face...."you down believe me???... its true though"
it is true lady.. whatever you believe is true.... maybe that's why you have seen so many summers and so many winters....

the weekend is the time I look forward to... such is the time now... in the past even when i was busy there was some play everyday... some entertainment..
now i just come home from work and walk my buddy and then feed him and then feed myself and the evening is over.. nothing more to do..
weekends are times when i wish i had a few friends to go out with or maybe get together and have a few drinks over a game of poker or a movie.. but times are such that i have no friends remaining.... everybody is so busy in their day to day lives that there is no time left for them.. i understand...
saturdays are great!!... or actually were great.... were a lot of fun.. now theres nothing to do on saturdays and so im here blogging.. sharing my feeling with you who are reading my rant and rave...
today we had planned to go to this little restaurant-bar-pub all in one... me and some of my friends.... but now there always has to be somebody who is the game changer.. so because one of our friends wanted to go to Buffalo Wild Wings to see the KFC fighters beat each other silly, the whole plan was canceled...
we others could have gone out but then steven is not yet 21 so he cant go to BW3s and sit with us when we drink... and it was just me and Jennifer ....and the other ladies are making the excuse of it being too cold.. like we were gonna sit outside... shit... another saturday wasted..
Saturday!!
fish are the largest pet population in the US..
there are many many people who like to have fish as pets in their homes.. because fish are the easiest to take care of.. and once the nitrogen cycle has been set then theres no looking back...
except there are regular water changes and the cleaning and everything that could be a pain.. but depends on what size of a tank you have..
i have a 75 gallon fish tank and have two filters on the tank.... one is the Penguin 350B power filter for upto 75 gallon tanks... then link can be found here [Next Tag] and an Aqua Clear 110 ..the link is here [Aqua at Amazon] these two filters do the job very well... and then I have a air pump and a water heater which is at about 78F for my tropical aquarium..
used to have a variety of fish in my aquarium.. now theres only two angels remaining... and when they go Im going to set up a cichlid tank...
keeping fish has many advantages...
1] they are easy to take care of
2] they are so pleasing to look at
3] research says that children with fish tanks in their houses/appts score better on their SATs
4] the smooth movement of the fish in the tank creates a calming effect on ruffled feathers..so next time you have had a bad day at the office, or a bad day at home try sitting in front of your fish tank and just looking at the fish...
here's a link to two great websites that have a lot of information for fish enthusiasts both seasoned and newbie.. Aqua Fish Net
